Leonard J. Guthart

Leonard (Lenny) Guthart of Newington, passed away on Sunday (July 25, 2021). He was born in Hartford, CT, the son of the late Abraham and Alyce Guthart. Leonard and his identical twin brother, Fred, were co-owner’s of Guthart’s Wallpaper and Paint Company, a Hartford landmark for over 70 years which they took over from their parents. In 1998, Lenny and Fred sold the business to carry on their musical careers. They entertained for many clubs, assisted living facilities, and nursing homes. Lenny loved anything to do with music. He was an accomplished pianist who could play any song by ear and a fantastic ballroom dancer who never missed an opportunity to do the merengue. The duo were well known in the music community. Lenny was also known for his snazzy attire. He loved bright colors, flashy prints, and Burberry. He is survived by his daughter, Naomi Saccavino and her husband Charles Saccavino of Newington; his two grandsons, his pride and joy, Steven and Matthew Saccavino. He also leaves a caring niece, Neeli Mann, cousins, longtime companion, Roberta Buland, and very special friends. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. Mr. Guthart’s family wishes to thank Cedar Mountain Commons in Newington for the care given to Lenny and is most thankful for the kind and compassionate care by his around-the-clock caregivers. Mr. Guthart’s family would also like to thank the doctors, nurses and aides at The Hospital of Central CT, for their compassionate care during the last week. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 28th, at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Avenue, Hartford with interment in Beth El Temple Cemetery, Avon. Following the interment, the family will receive relatives and friends in Avon. Arrangements are entrusted to Weinstein Mortuary, Hartford.
