Lucile (Greenstein) Cohen, 89, of West Hartford, passed away on Sunday, April 2, 2006. Born in New Britain, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Sarah (Welinsky) Greenstein, and the wife of the late Sidney P. Cohen. She received a Masters Degree in English from Central Connecticut State University and a Masters Degree in Library Science from Southern Connecticut State University. Mrs. Cohen taught English and was the librarian at EC Goodwin Technical School in New Britain. She moved to West Hartford in 1960 where she was a resident the last 46 years. She was active in Jonathan Lodge Welfare, the West Hartford Seniors, and Beth El Temple and United Synagogues of West Hartford, both in West Hartford. She won many town spelling bees and vocabulary contests. She is survived by her children: Rabbi Edward Cohen and his wife Mindy of West Hartford, Elise Owens and her husband Larry of Queens, NY, and Robert Cohen and his wife Marilyn of Farmington; grandchildren: Jeffrey and his wife Sarah of Moab, UT, Debra and her husband Evan Himmelfarb of Silver Spring, MD, Stacy, Sarah and Stephen; and a great grandchild: Herbie William Cohen. She also leaves a brother Harold Greenstein of Albany, NY. The family wishes to express their appreciation to Eugenie Fraser for the special care she gave to Lucile. Funeral services will be held TODAY, Tuesday, April 4, 2006 at 1:30 PM in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford with Rabbi James Rosen and Rabbi Edward Cohen officiating. Interment will follow in the Beth Alom Cemetery, Allen St., New Britain. Shiva will be observed at the home of her son, Rabbi Edward Cohen, 25 Stoneham Dr., West Hartford.
