Marilyn (Alcon) Hendel

Marilyn Alcon Hendel, wife of David S. Hendel, died Sunday, June 15, 2008 after a long illness. Born in Hartford, March 6 ,1936 and raised in Kingston, New York, she was the daughter of the late Estelle (Salowitz) and Louis Alcon. She attended Syracuse University and graduated from The University of Bridgeport. Marilyn taught elementary school in Westport prior to her marriage on June 21, 1959 to David S. Hendel of New London. They resided in New London until moving to West Hartford in 1965, spending their winters in Pompano Beach, Florida. She was a member of Hadassah, The Hebrew Home and Hospital Auxiliary and Beth El Temple. In addition to her husband David, she leaves her daughters and their husbands, Cindy and Jay Botwick, Lisa and Jed Finman, and her three beloved grandchildren, Alexander Botwick, and Lindsay and Allison Finman all of West Hartford. Marilyn also leaves her sister and brother-in-law, Hyla and James Cohen of Cheshire, brothers-in-law and their wives, Murray and Pauline Hendel of Naples, Florida and Ted and Claire Hendel of Aventura, Florida , Uncle Jack Salowitz of New London and many nieces, nephews, family and friends. Marilyn?s family wishes to thank hospice nurses Laura and Mary, and aide Lisa of The Connecticut VNA Partners for their tender care and compassion and Dr. Zia Rahman and nurse Judy Small of The St. Francis Cancer Center. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 18, at 10:00 AM in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford, with Rabbi James Rosen officiating. Interment will follow in the Beth El Temple Cemetery, Avon. A Memorial Period will be observed at the home of Lisa and Jed Finman, Apple Hill Road, West Hartford, immediately following the funeral with services that evening, and on Thursday from 2-5 PM and 7-9 PM.
