Marion ((Michels)) Gordon

Marion Michels Gordon, of Basking Ridge, NJ peacefully passed away Monday morning with her two children, Lisa and Daniel, by her side. Marion, a long-time resident of Simsbury, Ct moved to Basking Ridge in 2005, along with her husband Ronnie, to be closer to her grown children and most especially her grand-children.
Marion was a devoted and inspired teacher her whole adult life. Beginning her career teaching English in Hartford, Ct and then continuing as a social studies teacher at Simsbury High School. In the late 70’s she returned to college and completed work for a graduate degree in Special Education. Soon after she transitioned into Simsbury High School’s special education department. Her incredible commitment to her students extended beyond the school’s confines and into the Simsbury community at large. She was a tireless volunteer and participant in a wide range of community support activities her whole life.
Marion’s love of people was immediately evident upon first meeting her. Her joy for life was ever apparent and infectious. Upon moving to New Jersey she took such pleasure in her family; participating alongside and lending a helping hand in the day to day lives of her children: Lisa Gordon (Watchung, NJ), Daniel Gordon (Berkeley Heights, NJ) and his wife Lavinia Boxill, but most of all with her two grandchildren, Samuel (Rutgers University) and Amelia (Governor Livingston High School).
She will be greatly missed by so many; but her resounding affirmation for all that is joyful and her strong spirit of generosity and warmth lives on for all those her life has touched.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, November 30, 2017 in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford, CT with Rabbi Jeffrey Bennett officiating. Interment will follow in the Temple Beth Torah Cemetery, 1361 Berlin Turnpike, Wethersfield, CT.
On Saturday, December 2, 2017 the family will receive relatives and friends at Daniel and Lavinia’s home at 71 Kline Boulevard, Berkeley Heights, NJ. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Community Food Bank of NJ (www.cfbnj.org). Arrangements are entrusted to Weinstein Mortuary, Hartford, CT.
