Marjorie ((Sodafsky)) Malitz

Marjorie (Sodafsky) Malitz of West Hartford died at the age of 86 on Monday, February 12, 2018. She was the beloved wife of the late Larry Malitz. Born in Hartford, CT, she was the daughter of the late Irving and Sady (Ackerman) Sodafsky. She graduated Weaver High School as salutatorian of her class. She received academic prizes in Latin and English. She graduated Wellesley College with a BA in psychology with honors. Following college she worked as a social worker. As a young mother, she volunteered and eventually worked in the West Hartford school system. She was an avid Yankees and Huskies fan who also enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family. Marjorie was a stately woman of integrity, whose wit and warmth was admired by all. She was a long time member of Beth El Temple and was very active in the Sisterhood and Chai Society. Marjorie was a selfless and devoted daughter, wife, mother and grandmother. Marjorie is survived by her son, Steven Malitz, Esq. and his wife, Stacey Malitz, of West Hartford, CT; her daughter, Leslie (Malitz) Kaim and her husband Dr. Steven Kaim of Longmeadow, MA; her three much beloved grandchildren, Ezra and Sadie Kaim and Eva Malitz and her brother Seymour Sard and his wife, Diane Sard, of Boca Raton, FL. The funeral service will take place at 11:00am on Thursday, February 15, 2018 in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford, CT with Rabbi James Rosen officiating. Burial service will follow in the Beth El Temple Cemetery, 51 Jackson Street, Avon, CT. The family will receive visitors (shiva) at the home of Steven and Stacey Malitz, 51 Cliffmore Road, West Hartford, CT on Thursday following burial until 4:30 PM. Evening service at 7:30 PM. Friday from 2-4 PM, Saturday 7-9 PM and Sunday 2-5 PM and evening service at 7:30 PM. Donations may be made to Beth El Temple or a charity of your choice.
