Martin Spector, 85, passed away peacefully February 2 in Providence, RI. He was predeceased by his wife of over 40 years, Carole Apter Spector and his son Lee Paul Spector. He is survived by his son, Marc David Spector of Huntington Beach, California, and his son Jeremy Spector and his wife Maura of Barrington, Ri. He was the adoring grandfather to his three grandchildren Kristina Nichole Spector, Samuel Patrick Spector and Sadie Kay Spector who were the light of his life and would always make him smile. Born and raised in Hartford, CT, Martin attended Weaver High School before joining the Army. He graduated from the University of Connecticut, and subsequently received a graduate degree from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. After graduation Martin worked in town management in Miami, Fl, and in Sea Gate, New York, before spending the majority of his career with the State of Connecticut in the Budget Division and DCYS. He was blessed to enjoy an extended retirement with the love of his life Carole. They enjoyed many fulfilling years after relocating to Myrtle Beach, where they traded in Mall Walking at Westfarms for the sandy beaches of South Carolina. Friendships were an important part of his life, and he cherished the time spent with close friends and family. A cup of coffee and lively conversation shared with a good friend, was when he was he was most contented. He was involved with the Silver Haired Legislature, the lobbying branch of AARP, and made several trips to Columbia, SC to advocate for change. He was an avid reader and would digest the Sunday New York Times cover to cover, maintained a love for learning new things throughout his life, and contrary to his urban beginnings, became a camper and managed to tow a pop-up trailer all across the East coast.

A graveside service with be held Wednesday, February 6 at 11:00 am, Beth Alom Cemetery, 48 Allen St, New Britain, Ct. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
