Marvin (F.) Eisenberg

Marvin Franklin Eisenberg, born on December 7, 1924 in Willimantic, Connecticut, passed away at age 93 on November 11, 2018. Predeceased by his wife of 66 years, Alice, he leaves his four loving children, Susan Schmidt (Azriel) of Bryn Mawr, PA; Deborah Eisenberg (Wallace Cohen) of Hartford; Steven Eisenberg (Beth) of Glastonbury; and Judith Rosenfield (Howard) of Farmington; nine grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Son of Benjamin and Florence (Salinsky), he was predeceased by his sister, Ruth Case. Trained as a navigator in the U.S. Army-Air Corps, Marvin never lost his sense of direction. Marvin was a graduate of the University of Connecticut and received a Master’s Degree in Education from UConn and a 6th year certificate in Education from ECSU. Prior to residing at Hoffman-Summerwood in West Hartford, Marvin was a long time resident of South Windsor, CT where he was a founding member and past president of Temple Beth Hillel. Marvin was employed by the South Windsor Board of Education for 30 years. He retired in 1989 as the principal of Eli Terry School, a position he held for 24 years. He considered the Eli Terry community his second family. Marvin was involved in numerous civic activities and served on community boards , including the Exchange Club and the American Field Service. Marvin helped coordinate for South Windsor the Project Concern Program, the state’s first busing program. During his retirement, he divided his time between South Windsor and Delray Beach, FL. A tennis enthusiast, he was nicknamed “The Golden Retriever” by his tennis friends and played the game well into his 80s. He loved the Boston Red Sox, the New York Giants and the UConn Huskies. Funeral services will be held on November 13 at 1 p.m. at Weinstein Mortuary 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford. Interment will follow in the Temple Beth Hillel Cemetery, 25 Edith Road, South Windsor. Shiva will be observed at the home of Steven Eisenberg on November 14 and 15 from 6:00 - 8:00. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Eli Terry School PTO- Marvin Eisenberg Scholarship Fund or a charity of your choice.
