Mary (Ann) Goodman

Mary Ann Goodman, 75, of Tucson, AZ died Wednesday, August 12, 2009 after a five year battle with cancer. Born July 24, 1934 in Hartford, she was the daughter of the late Allan S. and Carlyn R. (Leichter) Goodman. Mary’s father, Allan S. Goodman, was a successful local businessman, and the Goodmans resided in West Hartford throughout Mary’s childhood. She attended Oxford Prep School, West Hartford, received her Bachlors of Science degree in early childhood development in 1958 from New York University School of Education and received her Masters in Special Education and Psychiatric Social work from Columbia University in 1961. During her 30s, Mary went abroad for further training in special education and psychiatric social work. She moved to London in 1970 and even though she lived in London for 19 years and moved to Tucson in 1989, Mary did not forget that her roots were in Hartford. Eventually, she followed her true passion, and pursued a career in photography. In 1989, seeking a warmer, drier climate, Mary moved to Tucson, where she continued her photography career, focusing on landscape, wildlife, and Native American artists. She made it back to Connecticut annually to visit family and friends. She leaves a step-brother, Roger S. Loeb and his wife Jane, a step-sister, Nancy Robbins and her husband Keith; nieces: Marcy Kushner and her husband George, Wendy Heller and her husband David, Karen Donshik and her husband Dan, Jill Cotter and her husband Ed; nephews: Mark Masinter and his wife Rebecca, and Bruce Loeb and his wife Ann. She also leaves 13 great-nieces and great-nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sister Carol G. Masinter, and step-mother Jean M. Goodman. A private graveside service will be held at Beth Israel Cemetery in Hartford, with Rabbi Stephen Fuchs officiating. A memorial service will be held in the upcoming weeks at Temple Emanu-el in Tucson. Contributions in memory of Mary may be made to the Tucson Medical Center, Women’s & Children’s Services, 5301 East Grant Rd., Tucson, AZ 85712, Hartford Foundation for Public Giving, 10 Columbus Blvd., 8th Floor, Hartford, CT 06106, or Congregation Beth Israel, 701 Farmington Ave., West Hartford 06119.
