Melvin (M.) Gipstein

GIPSTEIN, Melvin M. Melvin M. Gipstein, 87, of Bradford Walk, Farmington, died Saturday,(July 5, 2008) at the Hebrew Home & Hospital. He was the husband of the late Claire (Lerner) Gipstein. Born in Hartford, he was the son of the late Simon and Sarah (Cohen) Gipstein. He was a US Army Air Force veteran, serving as a staff sergeant during World War II. He received his degree from the University of Vermont, and while there he was a member of the varsity tennis team and a member of the Tau Epsilon Phi fraternity. He began his career in the furniture business in the Hartford area, and later owned and managed his own manufacturing and sales company. During that time he was also involved in real estate investment. After his retirement he resided in St. Maarten, Netherlands Antilles, for many years. He leaves his son, Mitchell Ted Gipstein of Farmington; two daughters, Susan Connell of Farmington, and Sheryl Gipstein of Chestnut Hill, MA; and two grandsons, Scott Connell of New York, NY, and Derek Connell and his fiance, Kara Kaminski of Rocky Hill. He was predeceased by his brothers, Joseph P. Gibson, and Herbert Gibson; and by his sister, Rose B. Gipstein. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 8 at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford with interment in Beth Israel Cemetery, Hartford.
