Michael R Koplowitz, CPA of West Hartford and Farmington, died peacefully on January 26, 2019. He was born in Hartford, August 25, 1936, and was predeceased by his parents David E and Jessie A (Lebetkin) Koplowitz of West Hartford, his brother Rabbi Lewis (Label) Koplowitz and sister Diane “Sandy” Hertz. He lived in the West Hartford area his entire life, graduated from William H Hall High School, class of ’54, Hartford Institute of Accounting and University of Hartford class of ’67 and was a lifelong member of Beth David Synagogue. He served in the US Army from 1958 to 1964.
Michael worked at G. Fox & Co. in Hartford, D&L Stores in New Britain and Barridon in Hartford. He worked for many years alongside Rabbi and Mrs. Josef Gopin at the Chabad of Hartford. He was active in the CT Society of CPA’s, Community Accounting and Aid Services, Toastmasters and Jewish War Veterans.
Mike loved polkas, coin collecting and corned beef, and he especially loved jazz. He played drums in high school, for a few dance bands in his early years, the US Army Division Band and Bloomfield Community Band.
He leaves behind five children: Miriam and her husband Randy Francis of Meriden, Susan Koplowitz of Farmington, Lisa Koplowitz of Norwood MA, their mother Sybil Nassau of Old Saybrook, David Koplowitz of Burlington, Ari Koplowitz of Norwood, MA and their mother Donna Wolf of Newington; three grandchildren: Dale Gagne (Williams), Steven Williams and Joshua Koplowitz; and three great grandchildren: Brian, Alexandra and Morgan. He also leaves his great-niece, Niki Koplowitz, her daughter Gavi, his extended family Susanna Lombardi, her children Bella and Joe, many cousins, and his good friend Linda Brown of New Britain. He would like to thank Erica and the aides at Masonicare for taking care of him. No flowers please. The funeral will be on Tuesday, January 29 at 1:00pm at Weinstein Mortuary on Farmington Avenue.
Burial will be at the Beth David Synagogue Cemetery in Wethersfield. The family will be observing Shiva at Yorkshire Village, 465 Middle Road, Apt. 29,in Farmington. Visitation will be on the following schedule -Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday -3:00-6:00pm Beth David’s Minchah/Maariv services will be convening at 4:45pm on these three afternoons at Yorkshire Village, Tuesday in the Club House, Wednesday and Thursday in the Koplowitz apartment.
