Miriam (Lurie) Rosenberg

d. January 1, 1970

Miriam Lurie Rosenberg, 94, passed away at Saint Mary’s Home on Friday (July 1, 2016) Miriam was the daughter of the late Sarah and Edward Lurie and was born at Mount Sinai Hospital, Hartford, CT. Her husband Irving, of 65 years, and brothers Solomon and Oscar, and a sister Evelyn, predeceased her. Miriam is survived by her son Stuart E. Rosenberg and his wife MaryLynn of Bristol CT, and her daughter Sharon Gorlick Royer and husband Peter of West Hartford, CT. In addition, she leaves her loving grandchildren Ean Gorlick, Alicya Suffish and husband Max, Ellen Rosenberg, William Southall, great grandchildren Taylor and Jayden Suffish, and her beloved niece and nephew, Sandy Knafel and Edward Luria. Miriam began her career working for the State of Connecticut. After many years of raising her children, she rejoined the workforce at the University of Hartford’s College of Education. After retirement she worked part-time for the Jewish Ledger. She was a member of Beth El Temple, West Hartford. During their 65 years of marriage, Miriam and Irving spent time vacationing with their children and made sure to enjoy each and every day together. Miriam was always there when needed, loved to cook for friends and family and was very fond of her grand-dogs. Miriam believed in always educating herself even in her later years. She watched CSPAN, CNN, Fox News and the Food Channel for entertainment. She only read non-fiction books and of course her iPad was her faithful companion. For years she carried the pride of when she met legendary basketball Hall of Fame Coach Jim Calhoun. Additionally, Miriam loved attending Shabbat services at Beth El Temple. The family wishes to thank members of the medical and nursing staff of Saint Mary’s Home and Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center for the outstanding care they provided to Miriam throughout her later years. She thrived because of the love shared by the staff at St. Mary’s. Special thanks to Dr. Bernie Clark of Hoffman Heart Institute who has been instrumental in Miriam’s cardiac care and devoted friend. Also, Debbie Stegmaier, her friend and life coach.
