Gerber, Murray Allen, 88 years of age, died peacefully on Saturday October 14, 2023. Murray resided in Boynton Beach, Florida, and also lived for many years in West Hartford, Connecticut. He was the husband of the late Shirley Gerber née Greene. Born in Rochester, New York on April 4th 1935, he was the son of the late Norman and Goldie née Fox, Gerber. He leaves behind his son James S Gerber (Theresa), his brother Sanford (Susan) Gerber, as well as many family and friends. Murray graduated from MIT in 1957 with a degree in mechanical engineering. He went on to earn an MBA from the University of New Haven. After graduating he served as a reservist in the military and briefly worked for Ford Motor company as part of the team that developed the Edsel. In the early 1960’s Murray moved to Connecticut and began his career at Jacobs Engineering now Jacobs Vehicle Systems. During his time at Jacobs he was an integral part of a team that developed the Jake Brake for trucks, the first interlocking brake system. In 1968, Murray successfully began his own company, Prototype and Plastic Mold company. As CEO and founder Murray grew his business from a startup in a barn to a 90 person, 10 million dollar enterprise, and for the next 30 years the company became one of the largest and most successful plastic and mold companies in the industry. Murray retired in 1998 and sold his beloved company which is still ongoing today under its third ownership group. Murray enjoyed a long retirement and loved fine dining with his family, playing golf, and his wine collection. Burial will be at the Stepiner plots, Baker Street cemetery, 776 Baker St., West Roxbury, Massachusetts at 10:00 am on Wednesday, October 18th, 2023. All are welcome to attend followed by a luncheon at Capital Grille, 250 Boylston St., Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts. For further information call Weinstein Mortuary, Hartford, CT.
