Myron (B.) Birnbaum

Myron B. Birnbaum, 90, of New Britain, died peacefully on Thursday, February 14, 2008 at New Britain General Hospital. Born on June 17, 1917 in New Britain, he was the son of the late Pauline and Isadore Birnbaum. He was also predeceased by a brother, Leonard Birnbaum, and by his sisters, Gladys (Birnbaum) Bayer, and Lucille (Birnbaum) Weisberg. Myron was the devoted, loving husband of Lillian (Silver) Birnbaum for over 67 years; father of Iris (Birnbaum) Burkat and her husband Howard of Hastings-on-Hudson, NY, Joan (Birnbaum) Krasnoo and her husband James of Andover, MA, and the late Nancy (Birnbaum) Tumarkin; he was the proud grandfather of Ethan Krasnoo, Paul Krasnoo, and Oliver Burkat; the caring uncle of eight nieces and nephews and 7 grandnieces and grandnephews. A graduate of the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in 1938, Myron was co-owner of Birnbaum Furniture Company. He was a past-president of Community Concerts of New Britain, and wrote program notes for many years for the New Britain Symphony. He taught music appreciation in the New Britain adult education program and performed frequently as a pianist at many community events. In addition to his musical activities, he was a passionate golfer and bridge player, and a lifelong member of New Britain’s Temple B’nai Israel. Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 17, 2008 at 1:00 pm in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford with interment in Beth Alom Cemetery, Allen St., New Britain. A memorial period will be observed at the Birnbaum home on Sunday from 5-7PM, Monday 3-6PM, and Tuesday 3-6PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Nancy B. Tumarkin Music Education Fund, c/o Symphony by the Sea, PO Box 1425, Marblehead, Mass. 01945.
