Myron A. Cohen of Hartford died Thursday, January 7, 2016, at Hartford Hospital. Born in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of Joseph and Gertrude Cohen. He had a long career as school counselor in the Hartford Public School system at Quirk Middle School and touched the lives of thousands of children in Hartford. At age 18 he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served as a staff sergeant as a medic in the European Theater in WW II. His unit was involved in the liberation of the Dachau concentration camp. He was a proud member of the Jewish War Veterans. Mr. Cohen was an active member of the Beth Hillel Synagogue and served most recently as vice president. He was a past president of the Connecticut School Counselor’s Association and remained active until his death as its treasurer. . He is survived by his daughter Marla of Hartford, his son Craig and his wife Jeri of Grantham, NH, his sister, Ruth Klein of Aventura, FL, and his grandsons Brendan Cohen, Sawyer Cohen, and Phillip Klimke.

Funeral services will be Friday, January 8, at 10:30 a.m.at the Beth Hillel Synagogue, 160 Wintonbury Ave., Bloomfield, with burial in Beth Hillel Synagogue Cemetery, East Granby. Shiva will be observed at Beth Hillel Synagogue, 160 Wintonbury Ave., Bloomfield. Memorial contributions may be made to Beth Hillel Synagogue, 160 Wintonbury Ave, Bloomfield or the National WW II Museum, 945 Magazine St, New Orleans, LA 70130. Arrangements are entrusted to Weinstein Mortuary, Hartford, CT.
