Myron S. Freed of West Hartford died peacefully on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 just four days after his 90th birthday. Myron was born in Pittston, PA on May 26, 1927. He was the son of the late Adolph Freed and Ella (Kleinberger) Freed.
Myron was a US Army veteran. He graduated from Penn State University with a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering and then received his master’s degree in metallurgical engineering from R.P.I. He worked his entire professional career for Pratt & Whitney Aircraft and United Technologies, helping to engineer jet engines and then fuel cells for NASA space missions.
Myron was active in synagogue affairs and served as President of Temple Beth Tefilah in East Hartford, where he resided for 60 years. He also was an active member of the Emanuel Synagogue of West Hartford.
He leaves his loving and devoted wife of 62 years, Estelle (Sherman) Freed and two loving sons, Michael I. Freed of Dayton, OH, and Andrew J. Freed and his wife Tracy of Magnolia, MA; his grandchildren, Emily Freed and her husband Brad Hershbein, Zachary Freed and his wife Karen, Amanda Freed, Alexandra Freed, Jack Freed, and Charlotte Freed; and his great-grandchild, Addison Freed. He also leaves his loving sister-in-law Rosalyn Darefsky and numerous cherished nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Myron was predeceased by his siblings Reva, Jeanette, Cyril, Monroe, Irwin, Selma and Gytelle.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM on Friday, June 2, 2017 in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford with Rabbi David J. Small and Cantor Sanford Cohn officiating. Interment will follow in the Emanuel Synagogue Cemetery, 1361 Berlin Turnpike, Wethersfield. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
