Nona P. Dorman, 87, died on November 13, 2015. The wife of the late Morris P. Dorman, Nona was born in Brooklyn, NY on August 3, 1928. The family first moved to New Britain, CT and then settled in West Hartford. Graduating from the old Hall High School in 1946, Nona received her nursing degree from the Ona M. Wilcox School of Nursing at Middlesex Hospital in 1949. While in nursing school, Nona’s mother spoke with Morris’ aunt following a Hadassah meeting, and the rest is history. It was a wonderful match, filled with love, joy and mutual support.
Nona started her career at St. Francis Hospital. She left hospital nursing to help Morris in his stores. In the late 1970’s, she started a business taking blood pressures in area pharmacies. Working 2 - 3 days per week, she saw up to 150 people each day. Her accuracy and record keeping was so exacting that doctors regularly sent their patients to her for monitoring.
Nona was an active member of the Association of Jewish Registered Nurses, having served in every possible position including President and Scholarship Chair. She loved helping young, aspiring nursing students attain their goals.
Nona is survived by her daughter, Hollis G. Dorman, of Hartford CT and her son Greg E. Priest-Dorman, wife Carolyn and grandchild Leor of Berkeley, CA. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Elaine Hendel and her nephews Webb, Alan and Richard Primason and their families all of whom held a very special place in her life and heart. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her parents, Morris P. and Augusta Primason and her brother, Peter P. Primason. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Primason Dorman Family Fund, Jewish Community Foundation, 333 Bloomfield Avenue, Suite D, West Hartford, CT 06117. This fund benefits Jewish Family Services.
Services will be held at Weinstein’s Mortuary, 640 Farmington Avenue, Hartford at 11 am Sunday, November 15 followed by burial at Beth Hillel Cemetery, 15 Wolcott Road, East Granby, CT.
