Pauline M. Abrahamson, 79, of West Hartford, died peacefully on Sunday (August 28, 2011) at the Hebrew Home and Hospital. She was a long time resident of New Britain where she taught in the public schools before becoming an associate professor at Central Connecticut State University (CCSU). She received her undergraduate and master’s degrees at CCSU and her sixth year diploma from the University of Connecticut. Professor Abrahamson was beloved by many of her students across multiple generations. She was predeceased by her parents, Julius and Fanny (Temkien) Abrahamson. “Pessie” was a devoted and loving daughter to her mother with whom she shared a home until 1984. She is survived by her best friend of 55 years, Elizabeth “Betty” Lynch of New Britain. Her many nieces and nephews along with their children will always have fond memories of special visits with Pessie and Betty. She is also survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Jacob Shoifet of Houston, Texas and a sister-in-law, Joan Abrahamson of Scottsdale, Arizona. She was predeceased by her sister and brother-in-law, Beatrice and Lazar Stambovsky and a brother, Samuel Abrahamson. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 30 at 11:30 a.m. at Beth Alom Cemetery, 48 Allen Street, New Britain. Shiva will be held immediately following the burial at Summerwood, 160 Simsbury Road, West Hartford. Contributions in Pauline’s name can be made to the Jewish Federation of Greater Hartford.
