Phyllis Zeller Goldberg, 77 years of age, of West Hartford, beloved wife of Dr. Morton H. Goldberg, died Sunday, September 12, 2010, comforted and surrounded by her beloved family after a long illness. Born August 21, 1933 in Springfield, MA, she was the daughter of the late Max Zeller and Celia Heit Zeller. She was a graduate of Classical High School in Springfield, The University of Bridgeport School of Dental Hygiene and The University of Hartford earning a Bachelors Degree in History. Phyllis taught in the Bloomfield, CT School system and later at Greater Hartford area synagogues including Congregation Beth Israel, Temple Sinai, Congregation, B’nai Sholom and Congregation Tikvoh Chadoshoh. While teaching and raising her family she authored a book on nutrition for patients with lactose intolerance as well as a book for patients undergoing oral and maxillofacial surgery. She was a member of Beth El Temple of West Hartford, CT. As a young adult, Phyllis served on numerous hospital, school and synagogue committees. She enjoyed being with her many friends and relatives, as well as her summers at Neptune Beach, New London, CT and winter visits to Sanibel Island, FL. Phyllis and Mort were Junior High School sweethearts and were married in the summer of 1955. In addition to her husband of 55 years she is survived by her children James Goldberg and his wife Debbie of West Yarmouth, MA, Dr. Julie Malkin and her husband Dr. Robert Malkin of Avon, CT and David Goldberg and his wife Amy of Falmouth, ME. She also leaves seven grandchildren: Alex and Grace Goldberg, Melissa, Peter and Caroline Malkin, and Isabelle and Sophie Goldberg. Phyllis also leaves many loving nieces, nephews , cousins and close friends. She was predeceased by her brother Eugene Zeller of Longmeadow, MA. Phyllis faced her illnesses with strength, courage, resilience, and dignity. The family wishes to express gratitude to Dr. Patricia DeFusco and her staff. Funeral services will be held TODAY, Tuesday, September 14, 2010 at 2:00 PM in the Sanctuary of Beth El Temple, 2626 Albany Ave., West Hartford with Rabbi James Rosen officiating. Interment will follow in Beth El Temple Cemetery, Avon. A memorial period will be observed at 33 Cumberland Road, West Hartford, CT. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Susan G.
