Rosalind Markowitz Hoffman of West Hartford, 100, (5/7/1920-3/7/2021) passed away with her daughters by her side, at Brookdale Chatfield in West Hartford where she’s resided for the past 6 years. She was the daughter of Samuel and Sarah (Gelfand) Markowitz and was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Saul A. Hoffman, as well as all of her siblings, Joseph, Bertha, Jacob, Gertrude and Raymond. Rosalind was born in Hartford and graduated from Weaver High School in 1938. She and Saul were married January 1, 1942. Rosalind was determined to further her education. When her youngest child went to elementary school she registered to take a couple of college courses, at age 42, and ended up attending both UConn and Central CT State College (now University) full time. She received her Bachelors degree in elementary education in 1968 and her Masters degree in 1976 while teaching second grade and ESL in the New Britain school system. Roz retired after 25 years as an elementary school teacher, at the age of 72. Rosalind and Saul lived in Hartford until 1967. They moved to West Hartford where Roz has lived since. They were active members of Congregation Beth Israel in West Hartford for well over 50 years. Rosalind leaves her children, Elliot Hoffman of Gillette, NJ., Deborah Hoffman Zeldis and her partner William MCcCarthy of Orange, and Sheryl Hoffman Simoni and her husband Dennis of West Hartford. She leaves five grandchildren, Rebecca (John) Brady, Dr. Tracy Zeldis (Timothy Slater), Sarah Simoni (Ben Read), Samantha Simoni (Eric Krueger), and Jacob Hoffman. She leaves two great grandchildren, Alexa Brady and Genevieve Slater. She also leaves her special friend, Kenneth Hale, of Long Island, N.Y.
