Sandra Sholovitz Gamzon, daughter of Herman Sholovitz (deceased) and Celia Kapelow Sholovitz of West Hartford, died peacefully on May 3, 2010, at the end of a two year journey with lung cancer. She was surrounded by her family whom she loved truly and strongly, whether in-law, step or chosen. Her circle of friends included special people from her work and synagogue life. She worked for 16 years as a librarian at the Hartford Public Library. Her legacy was respect and fair mindedness with her colleagues and customers. During her work life she accomplished the acquisition of assistive technology for the library and developed training sessions for staff and customers. She will be remembered for her gift of storytelling at her synagogue. She loved seeing the joy on the faces of the listeners as she took them on trips into the recent past of the Jewish experience and always brought in a moral or value for the young people and their parents to reinforce. She leaves her beloved husband of thirty one years, Bill. She loved him more and better with each passing year. She is survived by her only son, Adam, and his wife, Allison Gamzon of West Hartford, and her two cherished step daughters, Diane Stone and husband Jamie of Bristol, and Jennifer Skinner and husband Mike of New Milford. She also is survived by her beloved grandchildren Keith, Amanda, Cody, Ryan, Emma, Nathan and Leah. She wished to have shared her love with grandchildren still to come. Additionally, she leaves her brother and sister-in-law, Arnold and Sandy Sholovitz, of Simsbury; her brother-in-law, Art Gamzon and wife, Nancy, of Columbia, MD; and her sister-in-law, Becky Harkness, and husband Brad, of Gillett, PA; as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. During her last years she drew close to her first cousins, Sandra, Judy, and Barbara. Her friends were her angels - Judi, Nina, Rita, Nancy, Nanci, Robin, Hanna, Rima, and Pam. All are special women whom Sandy loved as sisters. Finally, her journey was eased immensely by the constant companionship of her beloved dog, Knish. Funeral services will be held TODAY, Tuesday, May 4, 2010 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford. Interment will follow at the Beth David Synagogue Cemetery in Wethersfield. There will be a shiva minyan at the home of William Gamzon (46 Crestridge Drive, Vernon, CT) on Tuesday at 7:30pm.
