Senta (Bodenheimer) Brown

Senta (Bodenheimer) Brown, 102 years of age, of West Hartford, died April 15, 2012. She was the widow of Fred Brown. Born in Bad Nauheim, Germany, she was the daughter of the late Ludwig and Frieda (Gutkind) Bodenheimer. She leaves her son, Dr. Louis Brown and his wife Trudi of West Hartford; three grandchildren, Dr. Sharon Brown and her husband Dr. Michael Pollowitz of Bethesda, MD, Michael Brown, Esq. and his wife Lauri of Livingston, NJ, and Dr. Steven Brown and his wife Sandy of West Hartford; and eight great-grandchildren, Andrew, Ryan, and Michelle Pollowitz, Maxwell, Samantha, Alexandra, Jacob, and Mia Brown. She was predeceased by her brother Rabbi Hans Bodenheimer. Through Jewish Family Services, Mrs. Brown was a foster mother to many Jewish children from broken homes. She also housed many Holocaust survivors who moved to Hartford. She was a founding member of Congregation Tikvoh Chadoshoh, and a past president of the Synagogue Sisterhood. She was also a longtime member of the National Council of Jewish Women. The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff of Hoffman Summerwood Community, and especially her independent caregivers Serena ‘Angel’ McCoy and ‘Nickey’ Sinclair. Funeral services will be held on April 16, 2012 at 2 p.m. in the Sanctuary of Congregation B’nai Tikvoh-Sholom, 180 Still Rd., Bloomfield with Rabbi Debra Cantor officiating. Interment will follow in Congregation Tikvoh Chadoshoh Cemetery, Tower Ave., Hartford. Shiva will be observed at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, 164 Orchard Rd., West Hartford.
