Sheldon Meyer, 90 years of age, of Bloomfield, CT, formerly of New Jersey, died Tuesday, January 16, 2018. Born in New York, NY, he was the son of the late Oscar and Esther (Blum) Meyer. Sheldon was a graduate of NYU, New York Brooklyn Law School, and did graduate courses at NYU in business and finance. Sheldon worked as a journalist and editor for many publications, the most recent being the Knight Ridder Newspapers. Sheldon also worked for the New York Herald Tribune and the American Banker. He became managing editor of the Journal of Commerce newspaper. He leaves his wife, Jean (Fairman) Meyer; his son, Brett D. Meyer and his wife Nancy of West Hartford; and five grandchildren, Michal, Yosef, Zelda, Yehuda, and Chana. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, January, 2018 in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford with Rabbi Joseph Gopin officiating. Interment will follow in Beth El Temple Cemetery, 51 Jackson St. Ext., Avon. Shiva will be observed at the home of his son, 100 Iroquois Rd., West Hartford.
