Shirley (Stein) Butler

Shirley (Stein) Butler of Whispering Pines, Avon, formerly of West Hartford, wife of the late Dr. Harold M. Butler for 35 years, died Friday, February 29, 2008. Born in Moodus, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Helen Stein. She was employed at Aetna Life & Casualty and was treasurer of their Women?s Club while employed. She was a long time member of Beth El Temple, West Hartford, a life member of the Bess and Paul Sigal Hebrew Academy, member of Farmington Valley Jewish Congregation, Simsbury, member of the Senior Center of Avon, member of the 55-0 Club, as well as a member of the Jewish Community Center. She was devoted to her family, and was an avid Red Sox fan. She leaves four sons: Michael, Jeffrey, Stuart and Jay; a daughter Linda Butler; six grandchildren; a great granddaughter; and two sisters: Sylvia Shedroff and her husband Leon of San Diego and Trudy Roth and her husband Seymour of West Hartford. She also leaves a beloved friend Minnie Goldenberg. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by a brother Murray Stein. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, March 2, 2008 at 11:30 AM in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford with Rabbi Edward Cohen officiating. Interment will follow in the Beth El Temple Cemetery, Avon. A Memorial Period will be observed at the home of her son Stuart, 3 Nuthatch Way, Avon, Sunday following the funeral through Tuesday evening.
