Shirley Dorothy Sowalsky Seltzer, 89 years of age, of Delray Beach, FL, formerly of West Hartford, CT, passed away on Sunday, November 3, 2019. She was the beloved wife for 65 years of the late Ralph Seltzer, who predeceased her in 2017. Born in Hartford, CT, she was the daughter of the late Ruth (Paisner) and Sam Sowalsky.
Shirley is survived by her sons, Mark J. Seltzer and his wife, Jaime, of West Hartford, CT; Steven P. Seltzer and his wife, Karen, of Port Washington, NY; and David A. Seltzer of Bethesda, MD; her daughter, Linda A. Winick and her husband, Jeffrey, of West Hartford, CT; her beloved grandchildren, Amanda and Aaron Katzman, Brittney and Matthew Seltzer, Julie and Daniel Winick, Emily and Grant Fairbairn, Melissa, Alison and Lauren Seltzer, Adam and Elyssa Seltzer and her two beloved great grandchildren, Molly Katzman and Jordan Winick. Shirley also leaves her brother Jerry Sowalsky and his wife Patti of Potomac, MD. She also leaves several nieces and nephews.
The family also thanks Shirley’s wonderful caretaker, Lucie Jean Acelouis, who took wonderful care of her for several years.
One of Shirley’s greatest pleasures was having family over for holiday dinners. She was renowned for her kugel and challah stuffing, the recipes having been passed down from her mother. She was a lifetime member of Hadassah and she always enjoyed her many card and bridge games and a good round of golf. She was an avid sports fan and loved cheering for her teams.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 6, 2019 in the Wolkowysker Society Cemetery, 401 Tower Ave., Hartford, CT with Rabbi David Small officiating. Immediately following the Interment the family will receive relatives and friends at the home of Jaime and Mark Seltzer, 10 Amanda Lane, West Hartford, until 8:30 P.M. with minyan at 6:00 p.m. and on Thursday 12 noon- 6:00 P.M, with minyan at 4:15 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Emanuel Synagogue, 160 Mohegan Drive West Hartford, CT 06117, Hadassah c/o Faith Helene 43 Carlyle Road West Hartford, CT 06117 for cardiac research and to American Friends of Natal, 1120 Avenue of the Americas, 4th Fl.
