Shirley Gitlin, 93 of Boynton Beach, Florida and West Hartford, CT. Wife, beloved Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother passed away peacefully on October 21, 2 days shy of her 94th birthday. Prior to her husbands’ death, Shirley enjoyed traveling, and exploring different countries with him. She also loved playing cards and Mahjong with friends. After her husband retired, they volunteered at Uconn Medical Center and later at Bethesda Medical Center in Florida. She was proud to have served in WWII as a secretary in the Waves.
Shirley was predeceased by her husband of 68 years, Milton, and will be missed by her son, Joel and wife Gail of South Windsor, her daughters, Amy Marandino and husband Peter of New Hartford, Judith Duff and husband Kevin of Bristol.
Shirley was blessed to have three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, Rachel Gitlin Peña and her husband, Eddie of Brooklyn, NY, Allison Halligan and husband Bowman of Charlestown, MA, Melissa Gilmore and her husband Brett and their children Charlotte and Caroline of Westwood, MA.
Our very special thanks to Shirley’s caregivers, Zen and Carolyn whose love and support brought her so much comfort and joy which meant so much to our family.
A private family burial service will take place at the Beth David Cemetery, Jordan Lane Wethersfield, CT on Wednesday, October 24th at 10:30 am. Shiva will be observed at the home of Joel Gitlin, 205 Natsisky Farm Road South Windsor, CT on October 24th from 5:30 – 7:30.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, or the charity of your choice.
