Shirley Gottlieb, née Sarah Rebecca Goldberg, passed away on Wednesday, April 4. She was 92. She was living at Hebrew Senior Care in West Hartford at the time of her death.
Shirley was born in New Britain, CT, the daughter of Ida and William Goldberg. She was the wife of Seymour Gottlieb for more than 50 years until his death in 2010. Her brother Jack and sister Rose also preceded her in death.
Shirley was a graduate of New Britain High School and was a co-owner of Goldberg’s Department Store (now Security Uniforms), a family clothing retailer founded by her parents. She raised her children in New Britain before she and Sy moved to Farmington Woods in Avon, CT, where she lived for many years. She was a lifelong (some would say “killer”) bridge player and enjoyed time with family and friends to the fullest.
She is survived by her children Bill Gottlieb (Fort Collins, CO), Jan Shabot (Highland Beach, FL) and Ross Gottlieb (Avon, CT) and her grandchildren, Molly Gottlieb, Jordan Shabot, Ben Shabot and Jeremy Gonzales-Gottlieb.
A graveside service will be held on Sunday, April 8, at 1PM at Beth Alom Cemetery, 48 Allen St., New Britain, CT.
The family requests that any memorial contributions be made to the organization of your choice.
