Holiday gatherings always took place at their home, where guests were always welcomed (planned or not). Shirley, an excellent cook, would work for days with the help of her children to prepare the meal. This ensured that the delicious family recipes and holiday traditions were not lost. Shirley was a lifetime member of Hadassah and an active member of the Columbia Senior Center. She had a talent and a passion for knitting until she was unable to do so, at which time she took up hand quilting. She had a keen eye for color and design resulting in many beautiful quilts and wall hangings that will forever be a loving legacy for her family. Shirley leaves behind her children, Edward Kassman and his wife Leslie of Columbia, S. Steven Kassman and his wife Cheryl of Vernon, Abby Kassman- Harned and her husband Courtney of Ellington; also nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. The family would like to express a special thank you to Verona McCrae, Shirley’s caregiver for the past five months.
