Sophie Lubka

Sophie Lubka, 96, of West Orange, NJ, former resident of West Hartford, CT for over fifty years, passed away, Thursday, November 21, after a brief illness. Brave and optimistic until her last breath, she survived the Holocaust to create a beautiful and enduring legacy.

Born in Pabiance, Poland, to Rachel Leah and Yisroel Rosenzweig, Sophie was one of five children. Married in Germany in 1946 to Felix Lubka, her beloved husband of blessed memory.

She was a lifetime member of Beth David Synagogue, West Hartford, and also of Hadassah. She was a strong supporter of Yad Vashem, and provided extensive recorded testimony of her survival.

She is mourned and will always be remembered by her children Sarah (and Michael) Goetz of New City, NY, Lilly (and Irv) Cantor of Jerusalem, Israel, and Mark (and Lisa) Lubka, of Simsbury, CT, and her seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren, about whom she always said, “They are my life.” She will never be forgotten.

Funeral services1pm Monday, November 25th Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave, Hartford, CT. Preceded by visitation with the family at the funeral home. Followed by a graveside service at the Beth David Cemetery, 1360 Berlin Turnpike, Wethersfield, CT.
