Stephen S. Kreinik, 76, of Hartford, died on Saturday, February 24, 2018 after a short illness. Born in Bronx, NY, he was the son of the late Arthur and Dorothy (Harap) Kreinik. After earning a BS and MS in engineering at Columbia University, he went on to a successful career designing equipment for television production. In 1983 he founded Nova Systems, Inc., a company that designed and manufactured video processing equipment. After selling the company in 1995, he continued working in the industry for several years, during which time he was made a Life Fellow of the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers. A lifelong model train enthusiast, he devoted many hours of his retirement to building an elaborate layout in his home. He was also a computer tutor at the Faxon Branch of the West Hartford Public Library and was very involved in his community at Beth El Temple. He is survived by his wife, Abbey Miller Kreinik; their daughter, Barrie Kreinik, of New York, NY; his children, Jeffrey Kreinik of Austin, TX and Jami Stock of New Braunfuls, TX; and his brother, Martin Kreinik of New York, NY.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, February 26, 2018 in the sanctuary of Beth El Temple, 2626 Albany Ave., West Hartford. Rabbi James Rosen will officiate. Interment will follow at Beth El Temple Cemetery, 51 Jackson Street, Avon. Immediately following the interment, the family will receive relatives and friends at their home, 154 Oxford Street, Hartford. Shiva will be observed at that same address Monday through Thursday from 6:00 to 8:30 pm. Minyan will be held each night at 7:00 pm. On Friday, shiva will be observed from 2:00-4:00. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Kreinik Family Endowment Fund at Beth El Temple. Arrangements are entrusted to Weinstein Mortuary, Hartford.
