Stephen A. Wiener, 71 years of age, of West Hartford, CT, passed away on Tuesday, July 24, 2018. He was the beloved husband of Susan (Mayerowicz) Wiener. Born in Hartford, CT, he was the son of Hannah (Goldschmidt) Wiener and the late Joseph J. Wiener.
Stephen grew up in Granby, and was the valedictorian of Granby High School class of 1965. He went on to study at Brown University where he earned academic honors along with athletic distinction as a member of the Brown soccer team. It was as a member of the 1967 Bruins that he was inducted in to the Brown Athletics Hall of Fame. Following Brown, Stephen received his MBA from Bryant College in 1975, and in 1979 graduated with his J.D. from UConn Law School. After passing the bar exam, Stephen practiced law in Connecticut and Massachusetts until his retirement in 2012. Stephen spent his leisure time doting on his grandkids, planning and enjoying vacations with Susan, and regaling his entire extended family with his love of humor and politics.
In addition to his wife and mother, Stephen is survived by his son, Joshua Wiener and his wife, Dana, of Avon, CT; two daughters, Jaime Smolin and her husband, Craig, of Trumbull, CT and Jessica Wiener of Grass Valley, CA and his five beloved grandchildren, Gabriel, Caleb, and Riley Wiener and Benjamin and Elisabeth Smolin.
Funeral services will take place at 11:00 am on Friday, July 27, 2018 in the Hartford Mutual Society Cemetery, 80 Wolcott Road, East Granby, CT with Rabbi James Rosen officiating. Immediately following the interment, the family will receive relatives and friends at their home in West Hartford. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Jewish Federation of Greater Hartford. Arrangements are entrusted to Weinstein Mortuary, Hartford, CT.
