Janice Glass, 92, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 9, 2024 with her family by her side. She was born on March 29, 1932 to Selma Kaplan and Jules Cohen. She grew up in Elizabeth, New Jersey and graduated from Battin High School in 1949. She attended Ohio University and graduated from the University of Connecticut in 1953. She received two master’s degrees from St. Joseph College in West Hartford in 1975. Prior to her marriage, she was a social case worker for the State Board of Child Welfare in New Jersey. In 1975, after receiving graduate degrees, she worked as a special education teacher in Simsbury, CT where she taught for 21 years. Upon retirement, Janice volunteered at Congregation Beth Israel as a member of the Feldman Museum committee, the Ellen Jane Goldfarb media center, and was co-chairman of SAGE, the seniors' group. She volunteered at Hartford Hospital for 13 years in the Radiation Oncology clinic with her husband, Norton, and many years at the University of Connecticut John Dempsey Hospital. She loved theater, movies, music, reading, travel, UConn Men and Women’s basketball and playing tennis and cards with her friends. A deeply loving and caring person, she meant a great deal to countless people over the course of her long and full life. Her kindness and generosity of spirit knew no bounds. Janice was married for over 50 years to Norton Glass who predeceased her. She leaves three children: Karen Glass and her husband, Jay Levey, Laurie Glass and her husband, Gary Forman, and Michael Glass and his wife, Beth Glass; she leaves 7 grandchildren: Brian (Sherlynn Meacham) Finnie, Will (Gaby) Glass, Luke Glass, Jared and Daniel Levey, Jackie (Phil) Benevides, Anna (Andrew) Meloche; she leaves her brother, Richard Reitman and his wife, Janice Reitman and a sister, Diana Wimmer; she leaves her sister-in-law, Gail Reitman Heald; along with so many dear nephews, nieces and three great grandchildren, Jacoby and Novie Benevides, and Charlie Finnie. She was predeceased by her brother, Stephen Reitman, her sister-in-law, Nan Glass and her brother-in-law, Harvey Glass. A Funeral Service will be Friday, November 15, 2024 at 11:00am at Congregation Beth Israel, 701 Farmington Ave, West Hartford, CT 06119 with burial to follow in Congregation Beth Israel Cemetery, 51 Jackson Street, Avon, CT.
