Michael “Mike” Scharr, 63, of East Granby, Connecticut passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 5, 2024 in Avon, Connecticut. Leaving behind his loving wife Julie (London), married 39 years.
Born in Hartford, Connecticut, on April 4, 1961, son of Jerome “Jerry” (predeceased) and Marlene (Ginsberg) Scharr, eldest brother of Janet Gochberg (predeceased), and Elizabeth Scharr. Father to Amanda Sears (Doug) and Alison Sjoberg (Stefan). Grandfather to two grandchildren, Layla London Sears, and John Michael Sjoberg.
Michael was raised in West Hartford and went through the West Hartford Public Education system, ultimately graduating high school from Watkinson School. After High School, he began his college education at Keene State, then took time off to work abroad in Australia, after which he went back to college at Roger Williams in Rhode Island, where he met his future wife, and love of his life, Julie (London) Scharr from Bloomfield, CT. They graduated and settled down in East Granby, where they raised their two wonderful daughters.
He worked for his family businesses, Scharr Industries, Avanti Machine and Equipment, as well as Techni-Met. He was an extremely hard worker, detail oriented, and committed to his employees and fellow co-workers. Outside of his work he loved spending time with his wife and children, playing with their dogs, going camping, working on classic cars, playing pool, working around the yard, and spending time with friends, and often could be found helping friends and neighbors with projects.
Michael was diagnosed with vascular dementia 6 years ago, and the family would like to thank the medical staff and memory care professionals who assisted them during this difficult time. A special thank you to those at Arden Court in Avon, for their kindness, support, and care of Michael during his time there.
