Albert Basch, 86, of Hilldale Road, West Hartford, died Monday, April 9, 2007 at home. He grew up in the North End of Hartford, graduated from Weaver High School in 1938, and proudly served in the US Army Air Corps during World War II in the 66th Airdrome Squadron. He returned from the service, married Elaine Solomon, worked in his family?s wholesale fruit and produce business, and raised two daughters. He was an avid sports fan, a member of the Barnell Club, and past president of Hartford Sick Benefit. He was especially proud of his extensive US stamp collection, and the dollhouse he built from scratch. He also happily attended yearly reunions of his Army Aircorps unit. He was well loved and had an infectious smile and generous spirit. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 61 years, Elaine; his daughter Marjorie Langan and her husband Edward of Easton, MA; his daughter Ellen Zenke, her husband Michael and his 4-legged grandson Beazley of West Hartford; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his brothers Samuel, Sidney and William. Funeral services will be held TODAY, Wednesday, April 11, 2007 at 10:00 AM at the Hartford Sick Benefit Cemetery, Zion Hill, Hartford with Rabbi Howard Herman officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends at the Basch residence after 12:00 Noon on Wednesday. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor?s choice.
