Arlene Friedman, 90, passed away peacefully on September 5, at Seabury in Bloomfield, CT. Arlene was born in Hartford on January 17, 1932, to her late parents Nathan and Jennie Kaufman.
Arlene was a graduate of Weaver High School and the University of Connecticut School of Nursing. She worked as a nurse at Mount Sinai Hospital, and later at convalescent facilities in Bloomfield, and was a member of the Association of Jewish Registered Nurses. With her late husband Abraham Friedman, she enjoyed travel, square dancing, going to the Bushnell and being a member of the Mr. and Mrs. Club of Beth Hillel Synagogue.
After her husband’s death in 1995, Arlene moved to Seabury where she spend many years enjoying new friends and activities, playing bridge and especially hosting the Jewish holidays for other residents.
The funeral will be graveside today at noon, with Rabbi Rebekah Goldman officiating, at Beth Israel Cemetery, 626 Lake Ave, Bristol. Shiva will be observed from 3-5pm at Seabury, 200 Seabury Drive, Bloomfield.
Arlene is survived by her daughter, Joan Peters; son-in-law Mark; grandchildren Shaina and Aaron, all in Brooklyn, NY; and her sister, Miriam (Mim) Katz, of Eastchester, MA, and nephews Stuart Katz of Juno Beach, FL, and Jonathan Katz of Northampton, MA. The family wishes to thank Richard Minella for his gracious help throughout the years.
