Hello Susan,, my deepest condolences to you and your family. I remember Barbara when we were children, and she was the most beautiful of us all. I remember visiting her and her mother, my Aunt Helen Kaplan May, your grandmother ( my grandmother Ida's sister) in Chesterfield countless times. I read that Barbara and Lenny were very active in their synagogue. I would say that Barbara was true to her heritage. Her great- grandfather, Harris Kaplan, was the leader of the small group of Russian Jewish immigrants who came to Chesterfield in 1891. The site of the synagogue they built in 1892 is now on the National Register of Historic Places. The general store, which is still there, was owned by your (and my) great- grandfather and Harris' son John, and then for years run by your grandmother Helen. I think Barbara loved her heritage. I have a copy of the Kaplan family tree that she compiled n 1997. May her memory be a blessing.
