Barbara

(Ann)

Wallack

Obituary

Barbara Ann Wallack, of Versailles, KY, formerly of West Hartford, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, February 19, 2012, after a short and very brave battle with leukemia. Barbara was born January 25, 1947 in Hartford, daughter of the late Howard G. and Josephine (Vogel) Wallack. She lived for most of her life in the Hartford area, attending Hall High School and Boston University, graduating with her Master’s Degree in Education. She taught in Hartford, but her real love was for horses. She built Wallwoods Farm in Bloomfield, a picturesque rehabilitation facility for racehorses. She was uncompromising and unparalleled in her care for her wards. In 2005 she followed her dreams to Kentucky where Wallwoods was reborn in Versailles. Barbara will be remembered as a loving daughter to her mother Josephine, devoted sister to Carol Hanon, the most wonderful aunt one could have to niece Julia and great-nephew Max, a funny and fiercely loyal friend to those around her, a champion for animals, and lastly for her famous chocolate bundt cakes. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at 2:00 pm at Beth Israel Cemetery, Affleck St., Hartford. Arrangements are entrusted to Weinstein Mortuary, Hartford. Barbara was a wonderful horsewoman and great friend. I will always remember her devotion to animals, spunky attitude, and, of course, her fabulous chocolate cakes! She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

It's been a little lonely these days on "The Lane" in Versailles, Kentucky. When I am out doing my chores early in the morning or late in the evening I find myself listening to hear Barbara's voice carry over the hillside calling for her many animals. I always told her that one day I wanted to come back as one of her animals. Her reply was always "please" but she would smile with a sense of great pride. In the last two months Barabara and I became close and shared many childhood stories. Our interest were very similiar. We both loved animals and often talked about the love of the land. I found her to be a very kind hearted person. Just this week I thought to myself how lucky I was that our paths had crossed in this life time. In losing Barbara I found a new friend in her sweet and wonderful niece Julia. You are the best!!! Barbara, there isn't a day goes by that I don't think of you and yes my show cattle are still standing at the fence waiting for you to bring them treats. I know that you are at peace in heaven.
Sadly missed,
Susie Fryer

Barbara when we met 5 yrs ago we were fast friends, and we discussed things that I discussed with no one because I knew you were genuine in your concern for me. you always told me how grateful you were to have me around to take care of your plumbing problems, and what a good person I was that meant more to me than anyone will ever know,
I will never forget you or your kindness.I will miss my friend.

Barbara helped me daily with a litter of German Shepherd puppies in the 60's, and remained in contact with phone calls even up to several months ago. Our contact persisted through her ownership and sale of Wallwoods, where we had visited from time to time, even while I lived in Maine, Pa, etc. When she moved to Kentucky our contact was by phone. She was dedicated to her mother, moving her to Kentucky to be closer. She loved her dogs, horses, and donkeys. Her knowledge of horses and horse people was impressive. (Her love of her shotgun also made us smile). She was a special lady, and we will miss her. Cary and Wendy.

With enormous gratitude for the life of one of my dearest friends. I will forever honor your amazing spririt and passion for your animals -- and your friends. Thank you so much for inspiring me and caring about me since I was 17 years old. I have learned so much from you and have been blessed to be part of your journey for so many years -- and to have shared each other's hopes and dreams, triumphs and tragedies, and wacky sense of humor even up until the end.... thank you, my friend, for all you brought to my life and for all the animals you loved and helped throughout the years. I am sure there were many joyful creatures anxious to greet you on the other side, the minute you left us this last week-end; and I am also sure that you already have a pitchfork in your hand, and are joyfully cleaning up after all of them and taking care of them in your expert way..... :)

To Julia: she loved you so much and was so impressed by your strength and devotion, as am I. I am so sorry for your loss.

My husband Cary and I shared a love of dogs (especially Cinder) and had many fond visits and conversations with Barbara. We celebrated her relocation to Kentucky where she seemed so happy. My deepest sympathies to those who have loved and lost a deer friend. She was a kind, passionate, and strong woman who lived the life she wanted. We shall miss her.

I met Barbara when I taught in the Hartford school system. We became instant friends. She was always there for me and we spent time outside school hanging around. Somehow, life got in the way and we went in different directions. A while ago, when I read her mom had passed on, I tracked her down in Versailles. We spoke for a long time and she invited me to visit her. I wrote to her a few times and meant to call again. It is tragic to read of her passing and I know it must be very hard for all those that loved her. I shall keep her in my thoughts and prayers and remeber the good times we has together.

Dear Friends--

I remember Barb well. We were in a Moliere play together, Le Maitre de Philosophe. I played le Maitre and she reminded me many times not to "forget the vowels," a memorable section of my part. I'm glad she had a long and wonderful career taking care of horses. My memories have her more interested in fancy cars. Please accept my condolences, along with those of others who shared good times at Hall in the early 60's.

Sincerely,

Charlie

Carol, our sympathies for the loss of your sister Barbara. My mother Doris Patti worked with your mother Josephine at Vogels. My father, Angelo Patti, who worked for the Balf Co., helped Barbara with some issues at the horse farm when she was in Bloomfield. Her love of animals, and in particular horses, was evident at the farm and in her daily life. I remember her visiting my parents house, and especially my mother after she became ill.

I have known Barbara most of my life. I enjoyed her farm in Bloomfield and loved stopping by to see the new horses. She had a great love of animals and had one of the best dogs in the world...Arno. I know she will be greatly missed.

Our sympathies to the family at the loss of such a memorable lady. Her championship and dedication to horses, especially those she considered her "children", was and will always be applauded and held as an example for others. Those lucky enough to be counted among her friends mourn her passing but celebrate her life.
No holiday will ever be the same without Barbara's famous chocolate bundt cakes freely given and greatly anticipated.
She will be remembered-
