Bernard Mussman, 92 years of age, husband of Nancy (Blumberg) Mussman died Saturday, October 6, 2012 at Hartford Hospital. Born in New Britain, he was the son of the late Louis and Lena (Hoberman) Mussman. He is survived by his wife and best friend, Nancy (Blumberg) Mussman; son Spencer Mussman of New Britain; brothers, Eugene Mussman and his wife Faye of West Hartford, and Merton Mussman of New Britain. He was predeceased by a son, Frederick Mussman, and siblings Ruth Rubenstein and Herbert Mussman. He also leaves several nieces and nephews.
After serving four years in the US Army with the Combat Engineers, Bernie and his brother Eugene established Mussman Brothers Hardware and Building Material Company on Hartford Ave. in New Britain. When the town acquired land and building for urban renewal, he was ready for a new challenge. Forming a commercial and industrial real estate firm, Bernard Mussman Associates, LLC, proved to be a successful endeavor. Bernie approached life with dignity and optimism. He was known as a “straight shooter”. He will be missed.
Funeral services will be graveside on Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at 2:30 PM at Beth Alom Cemetery, Allen St., New Britain, with Rabbi James Rosen officiating. Relatives and friends may call after 7:00 PM on Wednesday October 10th and Thursday October 11th, at 29 Main St., Farmington. A graduate of Baypath College ‘41, Bernie served on the Board of Trustees a number of years. The family requests memorial contributions may be made to Baypath College, 588 Longmeadow St., Longmeadow, MA 01106, or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
