Edwin A. Lassman, 78, of South Windsor, passed away at St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center, Hartford, on Wednesday, March 14, 2007 surrounded by members of his family. He was born in Hartford on October 13, 1928 to the late Harry and Anna (Seltzer) Lassman. He graduated from Weaver High School (Class of 1946) and from The University of Connecticut in 1950. He graduated with distinction from Cornell University Law School in 1953 where he served on the Cornell Law Review and was a member of the Order of the Coif. He served in the US Army from 1953-55, and after an Honorable Discharge began practicing law in Hartford. In 1957 he joined the law firm presently known as Rogin, Nassau, Caplan, Lassman & Hirtle where he remained affiliated until the time of his passing. He was the Town Attorney of South Windsor from 1957-1963, State Representative from South Windsor and East Windsor from 1967-1969, and was a member of the South Windsor Democratic Town Committee for more than 20 years. He was a founding member of Temple Beth Hillel in South Windsor, a charter member of the South Windsor Exchange Club, and at various times was affiliated with the South Windsor Little League and Cub Scouts. He was an avid tennis player, recreational golfer and a UConn Husky fan. At the age of 60, Ed became an enthusiastic downhill skier, and late in life he enjoyed spending winters in Boca Raton, FL and summers on Cape Cod. Besides his loving wife of 54 years, Janet (Harris), he is survived by his four children and their spouses: Mark Lassman and Judge Marianne Lassman Fisher of South Windsor, Bruce and Maria Lassman of Bloomfield Hills, MI, Dr. Charles Lassman and his companion Michael O?Connor of Venice, CA, and Marcia Lassman and Benjamin Pushner of Newton, MA. He is survived by seven grandchildren: Alexander and Elizabeth Lassman of South Windsor, Victoria, William and Jonathan Lassman of Bloomfield Hills, MI, and Molly and Jennifer Pushner of Newton, MA. He is also survived by his sisters: Evelyn Wish and Rosalie Rosenthal, and his brother Dr. Nathan Lassman and his wife Pamela, all of West Hartford. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff at the Cancer Center of St. Francis Hospital for the care he received during his illness. The funeral will be held on Sunday, March 18, 2007 at 2:00 PM at Temple Beth Hillel, 20 Baker Lane, South Windsor, with Rabbi Jeffrey Glickman officiating. Interment will follow in the Piaterer Verein Society Cemetery, Wethersfield. Shiva will be observed at his home, 79 Deepwood Dr., South Windsor, Sunday following the funeral, and Monday thru Thursday from 2-8 PM.
