ROSENWORCEL, Elliott M.D., of West Hartford, Connecticut, passed away peacefully from complications from pneumonia on May 2, 2024. Beloved and devoted husband of Willa Rosenworcel of 55 years. Loving father of Jessica Rosenworcel and her husband, Mark Bailen of Washington, DC and Brian Rosenworcel and his wife, Megan Poe of Brooklyn, New York. Cherished grandfather of Caroline and Emmett Bailen of Washington, DC and Jolene, Marshal and Nico Rosenworcel of Brooklyn, New York. Beloved brother of Reyna Jassin and her husband, Andrew Jassin, of Oceanside, New York, and uncle to their children Amanda Jassin and her husband Glenn Schiachitano, and Eric Jassin.
He was born on November 14, 1942, to Anne and Joseph Rosenworcel. A child of New York, he was raised in Brooklyn and attended Lincoln High School. He graduated from New York University and received his medical degree from the State University of New York Upstate Medical University, where he was an Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society graduate. He was a resident in medicine at Maimonides Medical Center and Albert Einstein University Hospital before going on to complete a fellowship in nephrology at Tufts University New England Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts. He went on to serve as a doctor in the United States Air Force, stationed at Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul, Illinois. After his time in the service, he was drawn back to New England, where he went on to develop a thriving practice in nephrology at Mount Sinai and Saint Francis Medical Center in Hartford, Connecticut. For three decades he ran the city’s clinic for hypertension and kidney failure. He also served as an associate clinical professor of medicine at the University of Connecticut Health Center in Farmington and was a friend and mentor to many in the Hartford medical community.
Elliott was an avid skier and fisherman. He spent countless days in the mountains of Vermont, along rivers in Connecticut, and on the rocky coasts of Rhode Island and Maine. He was a voracious reader, consuming multiple newspapers daily, a wide range of medical journals, and a regular stack of books by his bedside table. He loved gardening and tending to the roses and perennials he planted at his home. Despite his devotion to his adopted home in New England, he was a lifelong fan of the New York Giants. He supported the professional achievements of his children and cheered the day-to-day exploits of his five grandchildren, who he loved dearly.
