Eric Ricky Aronstein, born January 11, 1929 in Wunnenberg Germany, died in Boca Raton, Florida on Sunday March 22nd. Eric was the devoted and loving husband of 60 years to Laura Strupp Aronstein. Ricky was the loving father of daughter Gayle Aronstein Lieberman, son Gary Aronstein, grandfather to Stephen Brown and Lauren Brown whom he loved dearly and spoke about often. He is also survived by daughter-in-law Amy Aronstein, son-in-law Robert Lieberman and many first and second cousins with whom he maintained frequent contact. Eric also leaves behind many dear friends in the Greater Hartford area, in addition to his newer friends in Florida. He was the son of Adele Pollack Aronstein and Paul Aronstein. Eric grew up in Germany, where he experienced Kristallnacht first hand while just a boy. He emigrated to the U.S in 1941, and settled with his parents in Washington Heights. After graduating from Haaren High School in 1947, Eric joined the U.S. Air Force where he rose quickly to the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was stationed in the South Pacific during the Korean Conflict. After leaving the Air Force in 1952 he worked as a technical representative in the Defense Industry in Oklahoma. In 1955 Eric and Laura were married and moved to Bloomfield, CT. He was then owner of Oxford Stores, a small department store located on Blue Hills Ave. in Hartford CT. After many years at the department store, he became a wholesale salesman in the apparel industry, from which he retired in 1989. After 1989 Eric and Laura lived in Boca Raton, FL. Eric was an active member of Congregation Tikvoh Chadosha (now B’nai Tikvoh Shalom) while living in Bloomfield. Eric will be interred at the B’nai Tikvoh Shalom cemetery in Windsor, CT. The funeral will be private, and attended by family members only.
