Esther R. Levitt, 91 years of age, of West Hartford died Sunday, November 26, 2017. She was the wife of Richard H. Levitt. Born in Hartford, Esther was the daughter of the late Arthur and Theresa (Fishman) Rabinowitz. Esther received a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Connecticut. She was a docent at the Wadsworth Atheneum in Hartford, CT for 40 years and was an interior decorator. Esther was a self-taught sewing and tailoring teacher in the adult education programs for the towns of Bloomfield, West Hartford, and Farmington using curricula that she designed herself. Esther was a life member of Hadassah and was a member of the Emanuel Synagogue of West Hartford for almost 50 years. Besides her husband, she leaves son, David B. Levitt of West Hartford; daughter, Carol S. Levitt Fine M.D. and her husband Michael D. Fine, M.D. of Scituate, RI; her twin sister, Leah Rabinowitz of West Hartford and her sister Judith Cohen of Bloomfield; and four grandchildren, Gabriel, Rosie, Cole, and Pheobe. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, November 29, 2017 in the Chapel of the Emanuel Synagogue, 160 Mohegan Dr., West Hartford with Rabbi David J. Small officiating. Interment will follow in the Emanuel Synagogue Cemetery, 1361 Berlin Turnpike, Wethersfield. Following the interment the family will receive relatives and friends at the Emanuel Synagogue.
