Esther (Berger) Pearson, 102, of West Hartford, passed away on Thursday, February 7, 2013. She was the wife of the late Robert Pearson. She was born in St. Louis, MO, the daughter of the late Martin and Sarah (Schwartz) Berger.

Esther graduated from St. Louis Teachers College and taught in the Hartford Public School system. She was a member of Beth El Synagogue of West Hartford, the Temple Sisterhood, and Hadassah. She enjoyed spending time at the beach, golf, tennis, gardening, knitting and the UCONN Women’s Basketball team.

A loving mother and grandmother, she is survived by her daughters, Susan Pearson and her husband Frank Ocwieja of Hartsdale, NY, and Marilyn Pearson of West Hartford; two cherished grandchildren, Matthew Ocwieja and his wife Carol Cheung of New Providence, NJ, and Karen Ocwieja of Philadelphia, PA; three great-grandchildren, Ethan, Andrew, and Lucas; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sisters, Celia Berger, Jean Blanke, Bertha Roth, and Rose Berger. The family wishes to express their gratitude to her many caregivers, especially Rosa, Eunice, Carrie, and Margaret.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, February 11, 2013 in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford. Internment will follow in Beth El Temple Cemetery, Jackson St. Ext., Avon. A memorial period will be observed at the home of Marilyn Pearson, 2 Brainard Rd, West Hartford, Monday through Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 5 Brookside Dr. PO Box 5022, Wallingford, CT 06492, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
