MORSE, Frances B. Morse, 99, retired Elementary school teacher died peacefully at her home in Haverford, Pennsylvania on September 16h. She is survived by her son Jonathan, daughters Eileen and Samantha, one grandchild Leah, as well as many friends and relatives. Born in 1907 in New Britain, she was the youngest of nine children born to immigrant parents who believed in the promise of the American Dream. She received her Teaching Certificate in 1931 and was the first Jew ever hired by the State of Connecticut to teach in an elementary school. During the Depression, she worked in Hell’’s Kitchen at an early Settlement House, providing education and daycare for poor and immigrant children. She retired from teaching in 1954. In 1936, she met and married her husband Mitchell to whom she remained married for 68 years until his death in 2004. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 19, 2006 at 1:00 PM in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Avenue, Hartford with Rabbi Henry Okolica officiating. Interment will follow in Beth Alom Cemetery in New Britain.
