Herbert Margolis, 83, of West Hartford, beloved husband of Alice (Estren), passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday (August 26, 2011). Herb was born on March 16, 1928 in Boston, MA. He was the son of the late Maxwell and Anne Margolis and is survived by his son, Hank Margolis (Elizabeth), and his daughter Lynn Dobb (Jerry). He was pre-deceased by daughter, Susan Hyams and sister, Claire Perry. He is also survived by grandchildren, Eli Hyams (Katie) and Nadine Dobb, sister-in-law, Lilly Liberman (Lee) and brother-in-law, Edward Perry (Elaine) as well as many beloved nieces. Also considered close family, Herb leaves behind Noreen Brown and her sons, C.J. and Omar as well as Jeffrey Hyams, his wife Deborah and son Alexander. Herb graduated from the University of Connecticut in 1949 and was an avid UConn basketball fan throughout his life. He remained a die-hard Red Sox fan right up to his final waking moments. Throughout their 62 years of marriage, Herb and Alice were generally recognized as one of the cutest couples ever. One of their passions was making and collecting friends wherever they went. Herb was a member of the Regents and the Masons.
Funeral services will be held Monday, August 29 at 1 p.m. at Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Avenue, Hartford and will be immediately followed by burial at the Emanuel Synagogue Cemetery in Wethersfield. Shiva services will be held Monday through Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. at the family home.
