Irving Fierstein, 91, of Farmington, passed away on April 25, 2014, just days before his 92nd birthday. Born on May 3, 1922 in Hartford, the youngest of eight children, he was the son of the late Max and Dora (Brown) Fierstein. He is survived by his older sister, Tillie Sheptoff; his nieces, Joan Baltarshanski (Paul), Lynn Nestor (Dr. Jeffrey Nestor), Maxine Elansky (Steve); his nephews Kenneth Sheptoff, Mark Sheptoff (Andrea), Jerry Fierstein (Sandra), Lenny Ginsberg; and several great nieces and nephews. Irving spent his entire life in the Hartford area. He was a devoted son who cared for his mother until her death in 1966. Irving enjoyed traveling, reading and politics. He was a mentor for the Hartford Police Department to youths on probation, and for eight years served as president of the South End Hartford Senior Center. He was a member of Congregation Beth Israel in West Hartford for 30 years.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, April 28, 2014 at the Emanuel Synagogue Cemetery, 1361 Berlin Turnpike, Wethersfield with Rabbi Joseph Gopin officiating.
