RUBIN, Jack Rubin, 96, of Bloomfield, CT, died Saturday, November 22, 2008 at home. He was born near Kiev, Ukraine on August 4, 1912, to Shifra Resnick Rubin and Isadore Rubin. He emigrated to the United States with his mother to join his father in New Haven in 1920 and became a U.S. citizen in 1927. He leaves his wife, Leah Savitsky Rubin, of Bloomfield, CT. He also leaves his daughter Sara L. Rubin and son-in-law David L. ?Harold? Montanari of Newton, Mass. His daughter Carolyn Rubin Musicant of Concord, MA died in 2004. Mr. Rubin leaves behind his son-in-law, Bruce Musicant, and his grandchildren, Judith Musicant Rosenbaum and her husband Lee Rosenbaum and their children Laurel and Amanda Rosenbaum of Concord, MA; David Musicant and his partner Anna Yu of Cambridge, MA; Susan Musicant of New York; and Joshua Musicant of New York. He also leaves his sister Norma R. Greene of Hamden, CT. Jack Rubin graduated from Hillhouse HIgh School in New Haven, working in New York for a year before graduating from Dartmouth College, cum laude, with the “Great Class of 1935” and then working in New York for another year before graduating from Yale Law School in 1939. A member of the Yale Law School faculty from 1939 to 1941, he served as a research assistant to Professor Arthur L. Corbin, the leading authority on contract law (Corbin on Contracts) and special assistant to the Dean of the Law School. In 1941, he became Counsel to the Milk Administrator, State of Connecticut. In May of 1946, he was appointed Assistant Attorney General of the State of Connecticut, eventually being promoted to Senior Assistant Attorney General. In 1972, he retired from the State of Connecticut, and then served for a number of years as counsel to what was then Tarlow, Levy, and Rachlin of West Hartford, CT. After his retirement, Mr. Rubin was a member of the Regent’s Club of West Hartford and of the Thistle Lawn Bowling Club of Hartford’s Elizabeth Park. He had been a member of Beth El Temple, West Hartford for more than 35 years. Previously, as a member of Emanuel Synagogue, he served on the Board of Education in the 1960s. His family thanks Dr. Ronald Szabo, the Hospice Service of the Visiting Nurses Association of Connecticut and particularly the patience, friendship, and kindness of his chief caregiver, Iris Gray, as well as Patricia Howzell, and Lorna Jefferson, during his final illness.
Funeral services will be held Monday, November 24, 2008 at 12:00 noon in Beth El Temple, 2626 Albany Avenue, West Hartford, CT with Rabbi James Rosen officiating. Interment will follow in Beth El Temple Cemetery, Avon, CT. Following interment the family will receive relatives and friends at Beth El Temple. Shiva will continue beginning Monday evening at his home.
