Eleanor (Ellie) Gurne Weinberg Jainchill of Bloomfield, CT passed away peacefully February 18, 2024. Born in Hartford, CT, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Esther (Freeman) Gurne. Ellie grew up in West Hartford, graduating from William Hall High School. Shortly after graduation, she met and married Alvin L. Weinberg, her husband of nearly 40 years. Ellie was lucky in love. Following the death of her first husband, she met and married Harold Jainchill, who also predeceased her. Ellie’s later years were made more joyous through the companionship of her “sweetheart”, the late Abraham Weinberg. Ellie was a lifelong member of Beth El Temple of West Hartford. She served on many committees at Beth El and contributed her creative skills by joining others to needlepoint the chuppah and knit blankets for the elderly and infirm. Ellie was impeccable in her appearance and in her housekeeping. She loved baking – especially chocolate desserts – and prided herself in never having used a cake mix. She created beautiful works of art with needlepoint. She enjoyed reading biographies, especially of women who led remarkable lives. She loved to travel and was among the first Americans to travel to China when their borders were opened. She also loved musicals, operas, and Frank Sinatra. Ellie was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who loved spending time with her family. She is survived by two daughters, Janet Gorski and her husband, Ray of Seabrook Island, SC, and Carol Starr and her partner Matthew Poster, of Bloomfield, CT, her grandchildren, Joshua Starr of West Hartford, CT, and Jessica Starr Praskin and her husband, Alexi, of Bronx, New York and her great grandsons, Noah and Asher Praskin. The family is indebted to the care provided by McLean Hospice Services and by the staff at Caleb-Hitchcock Health Center and at CareKeepers. A funeral service is planned for Wednesday, February 21 at 11:00 AM at Beth El Temple, 2626 Albany Avenue, West Hartford. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ellie’s remembrance may be sent to either the Eleanor Weinberg Jainchill Family Fund or to the Carol W Starr Endowment Fund for people with Developmental Disabilities, Beth El Temple of West Hartford, 2626 Albany Avenue, West Hartford, CT 06117 or a charity of the donor’s choice.
