Glotzer

Obituary

Janice (Franklin) Glotzer, age 94 of Glastonbury, peacefully passed away Friday morning December 11, 2020. She was the best friend and wife for 67 years of William B. Glotzer, who passed away in 2013. Born in Hartford, Jan was the daughter of the late Marcus and Lee (Olshan) Franklin. After attending Mary Burnham School in Massachusetts, she did post graduate work at the Katharine Gibbs School in New York City. A native of Glastonbury, Jan wed her soulmate Bill in 1946. They raised their two daughters in her hometown where she was active in community organizations, including school PTAs, Brownies, Girl Scouts, The Glastonbury Women’s Club and the Glastonbury Democratic Women’s Club. She also worked in Human Resources for more than a decade at Mt. Sinai Hospital in Hartford. Jan and Bill traveled extensively and she especially gravitated to warmth and sunshine, much like her personality. Known for her elegance and impeccable fashion sense, as well as her laughter, unbridled love and affection, Jan enjoyed hosting many holidays and celebrations with her family, and her growing brood of grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her love had no boundaries, nor strings attached, and she exuded generosity and support. Her personality sparkled whether she was working the polls on Election Day, chatting with her weekly bagel group or tolerating her weekly exercise classes. Jan is survived by her two daughters and their husbands, Sherry and Jim Harriman of South Glastonbury and Ellen and Joel Stoltz of Tucson, Ariz.; four grandchildren, Marni Lane and her husband Jason, Josh Harriman and his wife Kimberly, Jeremy Stoltz and his wife Alyssa, and Shira Matityahu and her husband Boaz; and 10 great-grandchildren, Tucker and Alexa Lane, Amby Harriman, William, Madison and Jace Stoltz, and Moshe, Benyahim, Simcha and Emunah Matityahu. She also leaves her brother Richard Franklin and his wife Carol of Carlisle, Pa. and sisters-in-law Rachel Glotzer of Norwalk and Arline Glotzer of Roslindale, Mass. Jan was predeceased by her sister Adele Fox and great-granddaughter Colette Lane. A private funeral service and burial will be held graveside at Beth Israel’s Cemetery in Avon on Sunday, December 13, 2020. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. For further information or to sign the guest book for Jan, please visit: weinsteinmortuary.com/funerals.

Dear Sherry, Jim, Ellen, Joel, Marni, Josh, Jeremy and Shira and all the great-grandchildren:

We were so sorry to hear of Mrs. G's passing. What a beautiful obituary notice. She most certainly was all of those things. I am certain that she has joined Mr. G and their wonderful love story still continues. I so admired Mrs. G and naturally all of you. I know your lives will feel somewhat empty without Mrs. G's exuberant presence, but the memories you have of her will carry through. She never changed from all the those years when I first met the Glotzer family. I have a great deal of love and admiration of her and all of you. Thank you for letting me be a part of your lives and the pleasure of knowing Mr. and Mrs, G for all these years. Our world is a little more lonely without them, but what memories we have. Your parents were the best in all the world. Yvonne & Michael Loudis

Sherry, Jim, and family,
So sad to hear that Jan has passed away. She was such a wonderful person! I definitely feel blessed to have known her, and seeing her at the polls was always the highlight of the voting experience for me. I still think of Jan and her smile whenever I am in the old Academy school gym. Please know that I will hold your family in my thoughts and prayers and wish to all of you that your happy memories with Jan will sustain you in this difficult time.
Fondly,
Coe Bancroft
