Jeanette (Frankel) Leshner, 95 years of age, of West Hartford, passed away Wednesday (December 12, 2012). She was the widow of Simon Leshner, who she was married to for 52 years. Jeanette was born in Gadsen, AL, the daughter of the late Oscar and Bertha (Seidel) Frankel, and the sister of the both late Ruth Frankel and Sylvia Kurtz. She graduated from The Alabama Polytechnic Institute (now Auburn University) with a B.S. in Home Economics (Food and Nutrition) in 1939. She served in the U.S. Army as a dietitian in the South Pacific during World War II. She worked at the V.A. Hospital in Newington and then as the chief clinical dietitian at Saint Francis Hospital, Hartford from 1958-1982, where she retired. She was a member of Temple Sinai of Newington, Hadassah, and the West Hartford Belles. She leaves her son, Orrin Leshner of West Hartford.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, December 14, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. in the Sanctuary of Temple Sinai, 41 West Hartford Rd., Newington with Rabbi Jeffrey Bennett officiating. Interment will follow in Temple Sinai Memorial Park behind the Temple. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association , 2075 silas Deane Highway, Suite 100, Rocky Hill 06067 or the Saint Francis Comprehensive Breast Health Center, 95 Woodland St, Hartford 06105.
