Jeffrey Albert Newfield, 63, of West Hartford passed away on Monday, September 5, 2005 at Hartford Hospital. A native of West Hartford, he was educated at Loomis-Chaffee School, Princeton and the University of Michigan Business School. At Loomis, he played Varsity Soccer and graduated with distinction. He continued his soccer at Princeton where he was a member of Quadrangle Club. At Michigan, he was President of the Business School Student Body. Jeff maintained close ties with all three schools throughout his life. A former Alumni Association President and Trustee pro-tem at Loomis, he established the J. Newfield Prize for excellence in Chemistry. Active in the Greater Hartford Community, Jeff was on the Board of The Easter Seals Rehabilitation Center, Habitat for Humanity and the Rotary Club of Hartford. He was a member of the Princeton Club of Hartford and Congregation Beth Israel of West Hartford. He was Chairman of the 1973 Sammy Davis, Jr.-Greater Hartford Open and served as President of the Greater Hartford Jaycees in 1975-76. Earlier this year, Rotary honored him with the Paul Harris Fellow Award for distinguished service to that organization and the community in general. Jeff leaves his wife, Patricia, a daughter, Alexandra, of New York City, his mother, Joy Newfield-Gerson and two sisters, Wendy McQuillan and Mary Ann Bowser, all living in California. Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 9, 2005 at 12:30 PM in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Avenue, Hartford, with Rabbi Stephen Fuchs officiating. Interment will follow in the Beth Israel Cemetery, Ward and Affleck Streets, Hartford.
